تنقسم انواع الحماية من اخطار الحريق الي قسمين وهما:

1- نشطة Active.

2- غير مباشرة – او غير فعالة (Passive).

والفرق بينهما بسيط ولا يحتاج الي تعقيد في الشرح حيث ان

الوسيلة او الطريقة النشطة Active وهي التي تقوم بإطفاء الحريق بطريقة مباشرة وتؤدى الي اخماده مثل الماء والفوم والغازات مثل co2 وغاز fm200.

اما الطريقة الغير مباشرة او الغير نشطة Passive:

وهي الطريقة التي لا تؤدى الي اخماد النار مباشرة ولكنها تساعد فى اخماد النيران او تقلل من حدة خطورتها مثل انذار الحريق (الجرس و الحساسات) والابواب المقاومة للحريق وكذلك الاماكن التي تؤدى الي خروج المدنيين وحمايتهم من الحريق
